Seasons greetings and goodwill to all ( except Chairman Bob, Goofy pothunter, and the monday night massive). I hope everyone has a good xmas. Can we look into changing the way the club draw takes place , the old bit of paper from an envelope clearly labelled morgans seems to result in old Bobby's name coming out far to frequently. Maybe a system as used in the world cup with different balls in different pots and the use of a german supermodel would result in a far fairer cross section of the club getting hold of the prized place. Anyway Happy Christmas

Wyvern Christmas Cracker 2005.I would like to thank all WAC members, family and friends for their help yesterday in making our Race such a success. It is now such a major event that we need over 150 people to organise it properly . For those of you who were unable to make the Prize Giving, Chris Vacher from BBC Points West kindly donated a cheque on our behalf to Weston Hospice for £1,500. Last year with sponsorship from the runners they raised close to £20,000. We hope they do so again this year. Once again many thanks to all concerned and don't forget to ask Malcolm for a T Shirt if you have'nt already got one.

Thanks to Rich G, Graham and Kira for their offer to help with the early start and set up the course. As I have actually spoken to Rich first he can take the spare place and the breakfast! Apparently it just means him leaving Sands Nightclub a bit earlier than normal and stumbling down to Waves Cafe!. We still have race jobs for all three so thanks for the extra commitment and offer of support.Apparently with our donation and race sponsorship, Weston Hospicecare raised in excess of £12,000 from the Wyvern Christmas Cracker in 2004. This year runners are raising money to fund an extra nurse needed for the In-Patient Unit and hope to raise more than £15,000. I am sure you will agree this is a very worthy cause. So a big thanks to all of you who are able to help on the day as it simply would not happen without this support.8 days and counting so there is still time to sign up!!Malcolm 01934 813340

For the ladies. Cricket is so easy to understand. just read the following..The Rules of Cricket. You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!

An ode to a night out in Weston:So to Weston town centre our male runners go,A hundred pounds a head they'll surely blow,Not on theatre or cultural shows,But on loose women, curry and lager that flows.Victor is our leader...a man of great height,With his dashing good looks he's a pleasing sight,A fine veteran runner...he's a leading light,With a big fat wallet you can't call him tight.First to the bar....he'll surely be,'A creme de menthe, barman!' he'll desperately plea,With Kevin on vodka and Tony on tea,They'll be plenty of lager left for Adrian and me.A belly full of beer all drunk in a hurry,It's twenty past eleven and time for a curry,Spicy food awaits...not swill and slurry,For Curry Gardens cooks the best Ruby Murray. The morning draws near and the air is damp,With twenty quid left it's off to Vamps,With gyrating girlies you trousers feel cramped,They're real men you see...not wimps or camp. With no money left the entertainment is done,The look on their faces is one of glum,But fear not my lads, transport will come,Just swallow your pride and call you mum!So £100 each the boys did spend,On beer, food and women...a worrying trend,But tucked up in bed the night does end,The boys of Weston AC...the best of friends.

Running for Weston is like a drug,You can't get enough...you've caught the bug,Running is great...that's what we do,But writing poetry .... forget it please do!So put away your pencils and pens,Instead go running up hills and fens,With Nike on foot and lucozade in hand,Together we make a merry band.Away with the rhymes and lyrical verse,It's time for Victor to dig deep in his purse,So to Weston I pray the boys will embark,On a social evening for fun and a lark. With the kitty nearly empty and their heads in a daze,Only the totty can avert their gaze.So be upstanding I ask thee...dump the prose! For a social evening is required, I do propose!

Former monday night stalwarts(who have piled the pounds on)in secret daytime training regime. My advice to any fellow motorists is knock them down. Bray + Griffiths will be able to repair any damage to your cars.

there i was this morning, happily driving to seaton, rain falling, but thinking its ok, my favourite half, and if all else fails,'i get a medal to add to my collection' but lo and behold, not only have they altered the course, for the worse in my view, 'still not unhappy as i said, i get a medal(if i finnish)' but no all that effort and all we got was a grotty bottle of cider,so come on organisers get back to giving those shiny metal things some of us like to collect. any one else feel the same?

Hi All (again!)Back in Lima (Peru) after a fab 6 days in Cusco and Machu Picchu etc. Fantastic country although Lima is a bit pants to be honest compared to Cusco. Would recommend Ecuador/Peru as a holiday destination to anyone. We're off to Miami for the last leg of the honeymoon tomorrow morning (up at 3.30am!!). At last there will be sun without the pesky mosquitos. Looking forward to showing off my comedy tan lines and mosquito bites. Julie says Hi too. See you all soon.

Hi AllGreetings from Ecuador! Sorry ladies but I´m now off the market and on my honeymoon. Went to the Galapà gos islands first and saw close relatives of Kevin Hudson (aka marine iguanas) plus many of his cousins (only joking mate!). Just come back from a jaunt in the jungle for 3 days. I have not been able to get in any altitude training coz as soon as I try I get a headache. Shortly off to see a volcano (5600m above sea level) and then onto Peru (Matchu Pichu or however you spell it) followed by a chill session in Miami. Thanks to those who made it to the wedding...it was good to see you. How about we have a gallery on the website of photos of club members wearing their club jackets at far flung places. Rich G would win in the Antartic but it could be interesting? Anyway, I hope you are all well and might see some of you at the Seaton Half.TTFNBryan

Hi Chris, Ignore those wags, we sure have a lot of fun down here in Weston.Having never been fully at home with my thuggish appearance I took the plunge a few years back and had a full gender change. I changed my name to Veronica and have never looked back. The steroids do produce side effects ( I've got a bit of a tick ! ) and People do stare when I'm wearing my high heels but hey, I say live and let live !

Day one. Very hot, very hard. Two laps, big hills. I asked our intrepid four for a comment each on the day. Shaun had no comment (no change there then), Natasha said 'Now that's a marathon', Ruth said 'b******s' and Rich said 'If you're gonna go wrong, go REALLY wrong' (Course signs were removed before he'd finished, which I thought was a bit cruel!). Keep checking the site for the gallery and on-going progress.

Just a quick question if I may.Where do you normally run to on Sunday's and how far?

Bryan Morley [WAC]

Posted : 15:29

195 messages | 42 events entered.
MattHmmm, Sunday runs! Happy days! Well normally there are two groups of Sunday runners. The first group starts from the Walnut Tree pub (Oldmixon) at 8.15am and this can cover anything up to 20 miles from past experience. Typical runs will take you around the back of Hutton on towards Crook Peek and even as far as Shipman. This tends to be a fairly steady pace but not too taxing. The other group starts from The Swan at Rowberroe (just of the A38 south of Churchill) and tends to be slightly more taxing as there are more hills (running over the Mendips as you do!). This group of runners normally do a run of 2 or 3 hours so it's good for marathon or grizzly training! Having said all that I haven't been for a while so it might have changed!

Hi Matt,Following on from Bryans message, during the Summer months our route changes, the group from Rowberrow tend to only run during winter months but we do still have a small group that go from the walnut Tree Pub 8.15 meet. This route at present is just under 12 miles and is on road, beach and through the woods, basically an out and back run through uphill along the seafront, toll road, up to the water tower and back. However if there is a race on it may not happen, its a case of turning up and seeing who is there.

Thanks again to all...especially to the little african man who stuck with me from 40k out, hardly saying a word and paced me right to the finish, Kathleen for getting so excited and Kit for apparently nearly crying (?) and being a great coach (his words obviously!)...seriously appreciated. Good Luck to Phil and Rich on your Comrades run ,remember no sprinting at the end, if your between 11 and 12 hours,80,000rands could be yours.Thought you might like to know, when you arrive back. There is a race across Europe 4200 miles in 80 days.Bob Brown won Birmingham to London in 29 Hours, 145 miles and said it was a good training run for the european run.He is being sponsered by Ginsters again . must give those pasties a try sometime.

At last! I finally feel a fully fledged member of the 'Off Road Runners' (even though I'm not yet running again). After supporting the Mendip Way Run on Sunday, I picked up an unwelcome guest, but didn't discover him (or her) till this morning clinging demonically to my middle toe - a big fat blood-filled TICK!!! Luckily Tony was on hand to whip it out (my eyes being too far away to see it properly), after I'd smothered it with Vaseline for half an hour!Euck, think I might just make my comeback on the road only!!!

As you all know I haven't been able to run for the last six months and feel the message board is my way of keeping up with things. I find the comments so entertaining, not to mention the spelling. Our club definitely has the best web site around, and if there are any 'important messages / news items' Shaun usually puts them on the Welcome Page. Please would the 'complainers' try to get out more, they then might just join in the friendly banter and even enjoy the company of others! I say keep up the natter, and don't worry about the latter!!!

I couldn't agree more with what Rich has put. I am an ex monday nighter but still like to see what is going on with the night that the three of us brought back from the grave. We had exactly the same response this time last year and whoever that was didn't have the guts to put his/her name to those messages either. So come on put a real name to the comment and not hide behind other peoples nicknames. I'm sure that there are several interested parties who would like to discuss the issues raised.

Teresa [Weston]

Posted : 11:18
My reaction when I saw the controversial message re Monday night chit-chat was mixed....The conversations that go on particularly between the Monday nighters show that the club has a lighthearted, social angle, and this is certainly likely to be positive in encouraging new members. The trouble is that it is really difficult to spot important information amongst all the to and fro conversations. Is it possible for us to have two message boards - a conversational one and an information one? Then people could choose which to read, depending on what they were looking for. I know 'Blab' was supposed to achieve this, but maybe two message boards would work better.

Steve J, I'm on the 14.10 from Bristol to Dublin, flying out on Saturday 29th Oct and coming back on Tuesday 1st Nov on the 12.40 flight via Aer Lingus.Looks like there's a bit on tension in the air at present. Maybe a social evening is required!? Curry, Chinese or Kebab? Who cares so long as it's washed down with loads of beer! See you at the Wrington Wotsit tonight hopefully.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do Monday nights have to be dissected week after week. Numbers, injuries, excuses, weather! Do I need to go on? Message after message it’s boring...just turn up and train, we don’t see Tuesdays, Thursdays or Sunday runs taking up so much space on our fab web site. The Monday run isn't a separate club, although looking at the message page you may be forgiven for thinking it was. It’s a message page for MESSAGES not snide comments and back chat, so come on you know who you are…cut it back and just RUN.

(Actually, you'd probably get a 'Queer' full stop) :)

Thanks for the messages. Times on welcome page is gun time took us over 5 mins to cross the start.Having now completed my first Marathon (thought it would be my last but feeling different 24 hours later) big respect to Rich for having run 7 in so many months and how Rich and Phil are mad enough to be doing Comrades and those of you doing the 7X7 marathons all bonkers!Finding stairs a bit tricky today! But achieving my aim of sub four makes the pain seem worth it, and that old wives tale that the true half way point in a marathon is 20 miles is no tale although for me it was 18/19!!Looking forward to seeing you all go through the experience at London next Sunday.

MISSING IN ACTION.Has anybody seen a slightly goofy , but seriously fit triathlete who use to run with the club and cheer us up with his jovial banter. Rumour has it that he was thinking of joining Clevedon so he can get out of early morning shifts at the Cracker. Also missing for some time now , another jovial chap ( shaven headed ,tatoos ) answers to the name of Richie. If anybody has spotted these two reprobates let us know and get them back training.

Hi All! Just wishing those of you participating in the Taunton Half/Marathon all the best of luck. Come on Phil (Bird) with lucky number 52!Top Tip of the Day: Don't eat a whole jumbo bag of pork scratchings all by yourself in the space of 10mins. Not only do the hairy bits get stuck in your teeth (ooerrr Missus) but you end up with pork breath and burps! Not nice as my better half can testify when I snogged her earlier.Has anyone else got any top tips they can share with the club?

Phil, the lady that sorted out my gait/feet etc probs was Jean Eburne in Portishead. Is a qualified physio specialising in biomechanical stuff, no idea how good she is really but she got me back on track! Her no. 01275 848300.
