Mendip Muddle
NEWS
We’re currently making provisional plans to run the Mendip Muddle on Sunday 10 October 2021.
If it goes ahead, the race will be run under FRA regulations and in full compliance with their Covid-related safety guidelines.
A final decision will be made in June.
The Race
The Mendip Muddle is a 20km multi-terrain race. The route is tough (there is 420m of climb), but very interesting, set in some of the finest scenery in the West Country. There are Roman lead mines, underground rivers, a nature reserve, open moorland, potholes, an ancient rabbit warren, an Iron Age fort, deciduous and conifer forest, and prehistoric tumuli.
Facilities:
There will be drinks stations at approximately 5, 10 and 15 km, and First Aid facilities will be available on the course and at the finish. At race headquarters at the Charterhouse Centre, there are (limited) changing facilities, showers and toilets. Light bites, refreshments and homemade cakes will be on sale during and after the event, in aid of the Weston Hospicecare. Water will be available at the finish. However, to reduce the use of plastic, we encourage all runners to bring their own reusable drinks bottle. Car parking space is limited, so please share if you can.
Prizes:
Commemorative plaques or trophies for the first three male and female runners and for the first MV40, FV40, MV50, FV50, MV60 and FV60. One prize per winner. In the event of veteran runners finishing in the first three of their gender, the respective veteran prize will be awarded to the second runner in that category. The prize giving will take place at 2pm on the day. Each competitor will receive a race memento.
Course records:
Male 1:15:44 (A. Kenchington, 1995) Female 1:28:32 (A. Granger 2016)Early bird special rate of £13 for entries received by 31st August 2019. We regret that entry fees are not refundable. Online entry available from May to 7th October 2019.
Please note: this is a category CL fell race fun under FRA rules. GPS enabled devices are permitted. England Athletics-affiliated and non-affiliated runners pay the same. No dogs are allowed. There is no cut-off point, but, in adverse conditions, marshals may be withdrawn after 3 hours 30 and all remaining runners on the course required to return to race HQ.
