IMPORTANT - Cracker Update

03/12/2010 17:12:17

Christmas Cracker Race Sunday 5th December - THE RACE IS STILL ON.

Please note that whilst most of the country is fighting its way through many inches of snow, Weston has been relatively unaffected. Therefore we have every intention of allowing the race to go ahead as planned. The current forecast is for slightly better temperatures on Sunday but we will continue to monitor the situation and if anything changes a note will be posted on this website.

5k Handicap Race

03/12/2010 13:56:15

As part of the Tuesday night speed sessions, the club will be organising a 5K handicap race for WAC club members every 2nd Tuesday of the month.

The route has been accurately measured starting at the Pier and follows the prom towards Uphill with the turn around being the same as the prom race. It then returns past the pier and onto the Cove restaurant. Here you will return back past the pier and finish several yards beyond it. Do not worry you will be told exactly where the finish is on the night!

Club members who wish to take part can either meet as usual at Hutton Moor or meet at the Pier at approx 7.20pm.

At the first race on Tuesday 7th December everybody will start at the same time so that times are obtained. (this is termed the scratch run in the race handicap world!). These times will then allow us to calculate your handicap for the next race.

What is a handicap race?

It is designed to level the playing field by adjusting everyone's start time based on their current 5K fitness. For example, if one person runs a 35 minute 5K and another runs a 20 minute 5K the faster runner would start 15 minutes after them.

In theory everyone will cross the finish line together but it rarely works out exactly. It is a great concept and a great motivator when you know you could beat someone in the club that normally you would never beat in a million years!

Hope you come and support the session.

Regards

Ian Carpenter

Cracker Volunteers - Your club needs you!

01/12/2010 14:50:17

It's that time of year again when we ask/beg/plead/grovel with club members/family/friends for their help in the organisation of the Cracker race on Sunday December 5th. Once again Lesley Cowell has grabbed the bull by the horns and pulled together a draft list of tasks and names allocated to those tasks. Please can we ask all members to read Lesley's note on the web message board and to check the task list to ensure you know what you are being asked to do.

In addition, below is a list of the club members that Lesley has not managed to pin down yet. Please can we ask those members to make contact with Lesley by email (link below) or by phone (07540 823017) to advise of their availability either way. If you have any queries about any of the tasks allocated to you please use the same contact methods.

Thank you once again for your support. We cannot host this race without the generous support of our members and their friends and family.
