With summer on the horizon, the social team are pleased to announce an extended programme of WAC Special Summer Socials - some new and hopefully fun challenges, camping weekends and an international event! to compliment the ever present grind of championship races.
The events and calendar section now contains the following events which will be organised if sufficient interest is shown:
25th - 26th June: Crudwell Lemans 24 hour bike race
Join team WAC for the 24 hours of Crudwell - a fun charity cycling / camping event where a team of cyclists take on as many laps of a flat(ish!) 7 mile cycling loop as they can in the 24 hours - yes this involves cycling through the night as well. Camping, BBQ, live entertainment and lots of fun are guaranteed at this event which is now in its 18th year. Open to all standards of cyclist from Tour de France wannabes to kids of all ages and even unicyclists! (a whole team of them last year!)
[ Further details | Events Page - Sign up here please]
2nd - 3rd July: Charmouth Challenge
The traditional club camping trip down to the seaside to take on a fell race in the afternoon and then bingo and drinking games in the evening!
[Events Page - Sign up here please]
30th - 31st July: Adidas Thunder Run
Another 24 hour challenge for teams of 2 - 8 (we suggest 8 unless members of the WAC Ultra Section are interested?) running around a 10k cross country course, Camping, hot showers and food vendors all included in what is fast becoming a popular team challenge event. [Further details | Events Page - Sign up here please]
20th - 21st August: Mystery Camping weekend
Too early to reveal the full details of this years second camping trip, maybe it will be relaxing at Wimbleball again? maybe a spot of surf training in North Devon? possibly sandcastles in South Wales? - sign up and watch this space for further details.
[ Events Page - Sign up here please]
15th - 16th October: Amsterdam Marathon / Half Marathon / 7.5k
Simple formula, book up with EasyJet from Bristol and then hand over to Running Crazy to handle the rest of the arrangements, stay in a 4* hotel in the centre of Amsterdam (B&B basis) and pick your chosen race distance. Make your stay as long or short as you want in order to sample the many delights? that Amsterdam has to offer.
[Events Page - Sign up here please]
The above events all require a degree of organisation which means we need people to commit via the "Count me in" feature of the social events pages on the website. In some cases a deposit will be required to secure places.
The events cannot run without your support, so please do get involved, sign up and come and enjoy the fun! Any further questions, please drop the social team an email or give me a shout on training / race days.
Cheers

Dear Club Members
It is only after considerable thought that I have decided not to stand for re election at this years AGM. As many of you will know I have been Chairman of Weston AC for some considerable time but following my move away from Weston I feel that this role would now be better suited to someone who will have more contact with the club. I sincerely hope that there will be a number of club members who will be interested in putting themselves forward for election and, if this is the case, anyone would like to talk to me about the role then I will be only to happy to do so.
Finally I would like to say what and honour and privilege it has been to serve the club and look forward to watching to go from strength to strength.
