Congratulations to all the participants in the sixth of this season's 1 Mile Prom Run of the Series 2015-2016 on Thursday 17th March.

The weather was kinder on this night, and some good times were posted by the first 4 runners coming under 6 minutes, including first female Harriet EMERY of Westbury.
Apologies for late posting of results. This was due to some unforeseen technical difficulties.

Fuelled by Easter eggs and hot cross buns, Weston Athletic Club’s runners claimed victory after victory over the bank holiday weekend. A perennial favourite for the club is the Shapwick Bunny Hop, held by tradition every Easter Monday. Many club members are in the final few weeks of winter training in preparation for their spring marathon.

Roger Hart recently sent me a link: http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafathletics/Administration/jimdixon.cfm which I thought might be of interest to some of you, as it relates to an ex-club member. The Royal Air Force article is about Jim Dixon who was a WAC runner in the 1980's and whom I trained with for a number of years. Jim settled in the area after being stationed at RAF Locking. At the age of 55 he won his age category at the 1987 London Marathon in a time of 2hrs 35mins 33secs.

Good luck to all of you about to undertake a marathon and be inspired by your current and past club colleagues.

As some of you may already be aware, Andy Hayes has decided to stand down as representative for the Triathlon section of the club. As a club we'd like to thank Andy for the time and effort he has put in over the past year.

The Committee are please to announce the appointment of Simon Andrews as Andy's replacement. Simon is keen to develop the club's triathlon provision and provide a platform for new and experienced members to share experience and make arrangements.

Details will be released in the coming weeks.

After a week with no races, there were plenty of running events, of all shapes and sizes, to occupy Weston Athletic Club’s members last week. The Burnham 5k on Thursday evening returned some great results for the club, with three placings overall. Kieron Summers and Wilf Huxtable finished second and third with impressive times of 17.05 and 17.20 respectively, sealing a new personal best for Wilf in the process. Michelle Fryer was third female overall, finishing in 23.32. Julie Bailiss and Jo Coveney were next to finish in 23.40 (personal best) and 24.12. Matt Wheeler was third club male to complete the course in 18.55 and seventh overall. Rob Furlong also achieved a new personal best for the distance, and Marc Whiting and John Hinchliffe were the first to finish in their age categories...read more
