IMPORTANT INFO for anyone coming to tomorrow evening's first summer (?) social run from the Dolphin, Uphill.

We will be meeting at 6.55pm for a 7pm in the car park on the opposite side of the road from the Dolphin about 50 metres towards the boat yard. The pub car park is very small so please DO NOT PARK IN THE DOLPHIN CAR PARK but in the roadside village car park opposite, in the boat yard or on the road between the pub and the boat yard or towards the beach.

Remember there will be no led groups from Hutton Moor tomorrow night.

There are just 4 to 5 places left for Kayaking on 25 June at the River Wye. The cost is £56, but £10 will be paid by the club so members just pay £46. So if you would like to go please email Paul Snelling.

The first of the summer social runs takes place this Thursday 28 April at 6.55pm for 7pm from the Dolphin pub in Uphill. As it is so close to Hutton Moor all of the groups will run from Uphill and there will be no run leaders at Hutton Moor.

Despite the alarmist weather forecasts during the run-up to the event, conditions were ideal and snow-free for the 19 Weston Athletic Club members who were lucky enough to secure places in Sunday’s London Marathon. Most of them ran for charity, raising many thousands of pounds in the process, but all of them ran the 26.2 miles to show how hard they had worked during all their training over the winter months...read more

Sunday morning saw 30 of Weston Athletic Club’s members travel to Bridgwater to take on the Bridgwater Bolt 10k race. A cool sunny morning with light winds gave the runners near perfect racing conditions. Chris McMillan took advantage of the terrain, and led throughout to win the race outright with an advantage over the second placed runner of more than two minutes. Chris’s winning time of 35.27 saw him take two seconds off the previous course record set at last year’s event...read more

The revised club triathlon championship for 2016 is now live and already has it’s first result, details of the championship can be found here or via a link on the triathlon page.

Well done to Phil Tomlinson for his impressive performance at Ironman 70.3 Florida. Phil Completed the 1.2mile Swim, 56mile Bike and 13.1mile run in 5:03:52, finishing 28th in his age category

A facebook group has also been created so that any member interested in Triathlon can ask any questions, organise training or share experiences. The group can be found here.

Administrative help needed

As we have been so successful in attracting new members to the club and encouraging EA membership, the renewal process has become increasingly difficult for one person (currently Niki Fulstow) to manage.

The EA memberships need to be recorded on the EA system by 31 May 2016 for them to remain valid. We are currently investigating how we can change the process so that more than one person can access both systems that need to be updated.

We've already have an offer of help from Tricia Baillie-Horler (thanks Tricia) and we are looking for support from two more people during the renewal period.

Please, if you think that you may be able to spare some time to help Niki, and the club, let Jim know at jim.wotton@westonac.co.uk.

It was a good morning’s work on Sunday for the seven club members taking on their spring marathons, and for most, the culmination of months of training through the winter. Manchester played host to five of them and Darren Stacey and Guy Bradford both ran strong races to finish in 2.56.14 and 2.59.01 respectively. Simon Lund, having only run Taunton marathon seven days earlier, crossed the line in 3.47.28, taking 12 minutes off his previous week’s time. Sara Butcher and Laura Radford stuck together for much of the race, and even though Sara had run Paris marathon the weekend before, she still managed to finish in 4.56.09 followed by Laura in 5.09.53....read more

Last weekend saw the culmination of four months of training for many of Weston Athletic Club’s members, taking on the first in a series of spring marathons in the racing calendar.The largest outing was across the channel to Paris, where 17 of the club’s members took on the Paris marathon - a largely flat course taking in many of the city’s famous landmarks along its 26.2 mile route. Conditions on the day saw clear skies, no breeze and temperatures rising to over 20 degrees C, which left many runners, unaccustomed to running in such heat, struggling in the latter stages of the race ...read more
