After a lull in the racing calendar, three races came along at once last week to tempt Weston Athletic Club’s members off their sun loungers and back into their trainers. First up was a perennial favourite for the hill lovers, the Crook Peak Cake Race. Although only three miles long, the route is a challenging one, starting at the foot of the peak, and climbing sharply to the top, along Wavering Down, and up again to the trig point, before a fast final descent to the finish line...read more

It is now only 4 weeks on Thursday (Thursday 8th Sept) until Ben Smith comes back to Weston to run marathon 374 of his incredible 401 challenge.
He will be starting at 11:30m from the Grand Pier and running a 2 lap course that will return to the Grand Pier at about 12 to 12:30 before starting his second lap. It would be great to have a large group out to support him as he nears the end of his 401 marathons in 401 days. You can come to run the whole course with him, run just as far as you want to go or perhaps come and join in for the second half of the route. He has recently been running extra miles to make up for the marathons that he delayed so you may be able to become an ultra runner if you choose.
At present he does not have a pre-run school visit arranged, if this is something that you would like to try and consider for your school please drop me a note.
He will be returning to Bristol in the evening but it would be great if anybody had a contact who could arrange a free meal for him at about half way on the run (ideally somewhere on the seafront) If you may be able to do this please let me know.

So you have got your incredibly VFM prom series early bird entry in, now all you have to do is run them. Knowing each month that the pain that you are enduring is taking one for the team, would surely be a great psychological boost. I am once again looking for lots of teams to enter this year's series. The winning teams last year were made up from a very wide ranging selection of the membership. If you would like to take part please contact me tottlejh@gmail.com or use the message board. It is best if, not withstanding injury, you can commit to at least 5 of the races. Please let me know the number you are hoping to run and also whether you would be willing to captain a team. Many thanks JT.

Well done to all club members who turned up at Burrington Combe last Sunday to run the Whites 2x2x2.
A special congratulations to Darren Stacey, first man home in a course record breaking time of 45 mins 51 secs, and to Charlie Hurcum, first lady home in 55 min 20 secs.
Lots of other age category prizes were awarded, for a full list of results click here.
All runners were entered into a raffle for Easy Runner vouchers and the lucky winner was Darren Stacey.
Many thanks to the Whites for a fun and well organised race and breakfast.

The Seaview 17 is a race not for the faint-hearted, and shows no mercy over its 21 mile route and 3,000 feet of brutal climb. A perennial favourite in the Weston Athletic Club running calendar, the race starts at Countisbury, just outside Lynton, and then wends its hilly way back along the coast path to Minehead.
Only nine members braved the challenge this year, but their fortitude paid-off, and all earned themselves valuable points in the club’s off-road championship. First to complete the distance, and win the race, was Kieron Summers, who returned to Minehead in a phenomenal 2.39.30 - the second fastest finisher in the race’s history. This result is even more impressive given that Kieron is not known for his love of off-road running or hills......read more
