Press Release

Chris conquers the crest

Weston Athletic Club dominated the field at Sunday’s Brent Knoll race. With a team of 35 runners, the club accounted for more than a quarter of race finishers and ensured a good spread of bright yellow vests throughout the event. The six mile race starts at Burnham’s rugby club, and lulls runners into a false sense of security along flat country tracks before they reach the bottom of the knoll and have to climb to the top encountering plenty of mud and biting winds along the way... London Marathon Draw

28/11/2017 13:23:22

If you want to be included in this year's draw for the club's two places in the 2018 London Marathon, read on.
Unfortunately due to the success in larger numbers of runners gaining ‘good for age’ places England Athletics have decided to change the criteria for place allocation.

To receive the three places that we have had before we needed to have 251 EA affiliated runners. Out of our 390 members we only have 240 so we only get two places this year.
The draw will take place on the night of the Christmas festive run on Thursday 21 December. Please send Jim an email if you wish to be included in the draw.

To be included in the draw you must:

  • - have been a member of the club for over a year (have paid one renewal)
  • - have current membership of England Athletics (i.e. paid the extra £14 when you renewed your club membership)
  • - have been rejected from the VMLM 2018 ballot in October, and have proof of that rejection (your email, or the letter that came with your magazine).

Please can you also confirm if you have run London before as the first draw for the first place will be for those people who have not run London before.

We will ensure it does not happen again.

30 under 30 for Weston AC

Conditions were perfect for the 30 Weston Athletic Club members who lined up on Burnham’s esplanade to take on the November 5k race organised by the Swim and Sports Academy. The club dominated the race, accounting for almost half the field.

Kieron Summers was first from the club to finish, and second overall, battling against two junior runners from Taunton for his podium place. His 16.38 finish was only two seconds off his PB set at the same race last October. William Fuller and Phil Tomlinson were the club’s second and third finishers and both earned themselves new 5k personal best times of 17.20 and 18.32 respectively... Read more

Press Release - Weston take the rough and the smooth

Weston take the rough and the smooth

Races very different in nature have occupied Weston Athletic Club’s runners over the past week - from the pan-flat prom to the moorland of Dartmoor and the mountains of Snowdonia.

Thursday’s prom run attracted a record number of entrants at both the main five mile race and the junior one mile version. Conditions were great with a cool dry evening setting the scene. The race was won by the club’s Chris McMillan who breezed over the line in 26.23. Kieron Summers was the next club member to finish, sixth overall and first in his age category in 27.26, and Ian Connock took third club spot in 28.36. .. Read more
