Hot on the heels of his county call-up for the national cross country event the previous weekend, Chris McMillan of Weston Athletic Club was back in the racing saddle again on Sunday at the Forest of Dean spring trails half marathon. The course follows forest trails and gentle inclines throughout its 13.1 mile route. Chris excelled himself yet again and won the race in 1.14.39, two minutes in front of his nearest rival. This years Beacon Batch race will take place on 20 June.

It is a classic trail race that takes place in the Mendip Hills over about five miles with about 305m (1000 ft) of climb incorporating Beacon Batch itself the highest point on Blackdown at 325m (1066 ft). But don't be put off, the race is for all standards, well marshalled with plenty of guides, and water at the finish.

Entry is only £6 online at Full-on-Sport or £7 on the day (Race capacity is 150 so advance entry is advised).

Weston Athletic Club’s Chris McMillan was picked to represent Avon and Somerset at the national Inter County Cross Country Championships in Loughborough at the weekend. Following a string of local race successes, Chris was selected to join the team of seven to compete alongside the country’s best runners.

The 12k race followed an undulating and frequently muddy course at Prestwold Hall. It was won by Olympian, Commonwealth and World cross country athlete Andy Vernon. Despite some pretty torrid weather conditions to contend with, Weston Athletic Club members were out in force over the weekend taking on a variety of challenges.

A team of seven bravely set off at 8am on Saturday morning for the Green Man Ultra - a 46 mile off-road route that circumnavigates Bristol. All the rain of late made for incredibly muddy and heavy-going conditions. Phil Richards showed her true prowess at ultra running and was the event’s female winner in 7.26.37.
