The first of our summer social runs. We'll meet at 6.55pm for a 7pm start from Uphill Boatyard. The plan is to investigate the new route over the Axe.

There'll be a choice of groups and distances.

There will be no organised groups running from Hutton Moor that night.

Sunday saw the culmination of months of preparation and hundreds of miles in training as Weston Athletic Club’s members lined-up alongside 40,000 other runners to take on the 37th London Marathon.

Conditions on the day were near perfect with temperatures reaching the low teens and very little breeze. The club was represented by 22 members all keen to achieve their best times... read more

Easter Monday saw the annual outing of Weston Athletic Club to the Shapwick Bunny Hop - a small local race organised by Shapwick Runners. The final race in the Burnham 5k series took place on Thursday evening, and once again the field was dominated by the bright yellow vests of Weston Athletic Club. There wasn’t a lot of space between Wilf Huxtable and Matt Dell who finished second and fourth overall in 17.38 and 17.40. Rob Furlong took third club position in 18.51. Just a reminder that Tuesday training has moved to its summer location which is the back field at Hutton Moor.

This year's AGM will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 18 April in the Champions Bar at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.

Dear club members

Many of you will be aware that we made announcements back in January about the need to wear club kit if you’re entering races as Weston Athletic Club. We also said that championship points would only be awarded where members wear club colours for races – with the exception of charity vests if they are running that race to raise money for that charity.

Since then we have had a few instances of people running in clothing other than club colours when they’ve entered races as WAC, and this has caused issues regarding the awarding of championship points and inclusion in the club results. This does make life very difficult for the club volunteers responsible for allocating championship points and making announcements about club member performances.

As some members have not been clear about the requirements the committee has decided to allow a further period of grace, and will retrospectively allow points to be awarded to club members who have not worn their club yellow t-shirt or vest up until this year’s AGM which will be taking place on Tuesday 18 April. After that date, points will not be awarded to club members running for the club at races unless they are wearing their club yellow vest or t-shirt (with the exception of the charity consideration mentioned above).

The rule that is already in place which states that members will not be acknowledged in the club results or championship if they run a race in someone else’s name remains and points will not be awarded retrospectively for races this year where club members’ performances have appeared in the results under another name.

If you have any comments or queries regarding these issues, please raise them with me, Ian or one of our other committee members, or at the AGM. You will receive an invitation to the AGM by email in the next few days.

Sunday saw the start of the spring marathon season and gave Weston Athletic Club’s members the chance to put into practice what they’d been working towards for the past four months. Some members headed north to Manchester in pursuit of a fast flat course, while others stayed closer to home and tried their hand at the Taunton version - an altogether different animal.
