Portishead multi-terrain 10k

20/08/2017 11:49:26

We've found out today that the date for this year's Portishead multi-terrain 10k has changed from Sun 24 September to Sun 8 October.

This means it now clashes with our own Mendip Muddle race and as a result we will be taking it out of this year's club championship.

We never hold our own races on the same day as championship races because we want people to help out (or run) and not feel that they're missing out on points.

Hopefully next year the dates won't clash and we'll be able to add it back in.

This leaves three short races in the off-road championship this year - Crook Peak Cake Race, Ash Excellent 8 and Brent Knoll.

Running for rock at Haselbury Plucknett

Relentless rain didn’t put off the 13 runners from Weston Athletic Club who travelled to South Somerset last week to take on the 10k trail race at Haselbury Plucknett. Always held in August, the race is normally run on a warm summer’s evening, but this year the field of 150 runners were treated to rain, wind and mud in ample quantities

The evening brought yet another race victory for Chris McMillan who beat the second placed runner by almost three minutes, crossing the line in 37.05. Josh Harris was the club’s next runner to finish in 44.16, not bad considering his efforts at the Seaview 17 just a few days earlier. Neale Jarrett was the club’s third-placed runner in 47.48...Read more

Thank you to everyone who's confirmed on Facebook or the event page that they're 'going' to the event on Sunday. Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we will not be able to put on the 2x2x2 race this year. Instead we're still going to meet at the same time and in the same place for a Sunday social run in groups. We'll probably split into three groups so regardless of pace all our runners feel like they've had a good run on the hills. We'll then all get together for our free breakfast 'on the club' at the Burrington Inn.
Confirmed runners so far are:

  • Helen Diamond
  • Stuart Diamond
  • Mark Bowskill
  • Charlotte Matthews
  • Sarah Nutley
  • Darren Stacey
  • Matt Wheeler
  • Richard Brent
  • Vanessa Andrews
  • Gary Iles
  • Paul Oaten
  • Mary Oaten
  • Carol Brent
  • Debbie Cekaj
  • Rachel Stafford
  • Gerry Hope
  • Rachel Hedges
  • Kate Rossiter
  • Mandy Swift
  • Chris Shergold
  • Julie Shergold
  • Jenny Cockayne
  • Kathy Fisher.

If you'd still like to come, confirm soon in case we reach our capacity for breakfasts.
See you all on Sunday. At the moment the forecast is dry!

Plenty of prizes at Purdown

Weston Athletic Club pocketed plenty of prizes at the Purdown Pursuit last week. The 10k multi-terrain race starts off in Stapleton before following an undulating course around parkland and woodland including the distinctive yellow backdrop of the Dower House at Stoke Park.

Chris McMillan won the race in 36.38, taking over two and a half minutes off his winning time from last year. He also finished over a minute and a half in front of his closest rival. Kieron Summers was fourth to complete the race, and also won his age category, finishing in 40.11. Darren Stacey followed in seventh place overall with an impressive time of 41.22 and with Josh Harris finishing soon afterwards, the club also bagged the evening’s team prize...Read more
