Weston Athletic Club give it their level best
Representing over 10 per cent of the field, Weston Athletic Club members were out in force at this year’s Clevedon 10k, eager to set new personal best times on the notoriously fast flat course. This year’s race was much cooler than usual too, making for great running conditions, although breezier at times than some would have liked.
Chris McMillan was third overall in 33.58, followed by Kieron Summers in 34.32 taking sixth spot and winning his age category. Darren Stacey took third club spot in 37.08 closely followed by Allan Fuller 12 seconds later earning third place in his category.
Susan Duncan was fastest senior female with her strong 39.37 finish. Michelle Fryer was second club female in 42.19 followed by Nia Davies in 42.38, placing second in her category. Carol O’Leary bagged yet another age category win to add to her burgeoning collection with her finish time of 46.52... Read more

Weston Athletic Club goes further
With spring marathon training still in their legs, it was a great opportunity for Weston Athletic Club members to push their limits a little further at the weekend, with road and off-road ultra marathons available.
On Saturday three members opted for the Dartmoor Discovery - the UK’s longest single lap road ultra marathon. At 32 miles and with ascents up some of Dartmoor’s most challenging hills, the event is serious running territory with a six-and-a-half hour cut-off time. 180 runners finished the race, but only 156 did so inside the time.
Having had unfinished business from last year when he finished second, Kieron Summers returned to the event to see if he could better his performance. And, despite the temperature reaching the mid-twenties, that he did. Kieron won the race in 3.57.02, almost half a minute ahead of the second-placed runner. Josh Harris ran a strong race to finish in 4.56.55 and Teresa King came second in her category in 5.36.56... Read more

Sun sets on final prom races of season
It was Weston Athletic Club’s final prom races of the current season last week, and after a very still and hot afternoon, the wind picked up to make the run just that little more taxing with a stiff breeze to contend with.
An impressive 305 runners lined up for the final time til the autumn in the main five mile race. As is customary in the last race, a few of the runners sported fancy dress with some rather hairy tutu-clad ballet dancers lining up alongside a pair of suitably rotund sumo wrestlers.
Fourth overall and first in his age category, Kieron Summers finished the season on form in 28.27. There was little to separate the club’s second and third placed finishers with Darren Stacey crossing the line in 30.15 and Cameron Slater just three seconds later... Read more

Butcher battles from Birmingham to Bank Holiday
Anyone who has ever gone a night without sleep will know the effects that sleep deprivation can have on the body and the mind, but imagine losing that sleep while also running 145 miles nonstop.
That’s exactly what Weston Athletic Club’s Sara Butcher did over the bank holiday weekend when she took part in the Grand Union Canal Race.
The race follows the canal path from Birmingham to London and runners must complete the course within 45 hours. Stops are allowed along the way for food, drink, rest and tending to blisters, but the rules dictate that participants cannot pause for more than 40 minutes at a time, so no time for sleeping... Weston’s women bolt for victory
Just the one race at the weekend to occupy Weston Athletic Club’s runners keen to gain points for the club’s championship. In contrast to the marathons of recent weeks, members were satisfied with the shorter Bridgwater Bolt 10k on Sunday.
Weston’s women were the fastest female team, with Susan Duncan taking second place overall in 40.49, Katie Gormley finishing in 46.03 and Clare Harvey hot on her heels in 46.24. Kieron Summers was second male overall in 35.52 with Richard Brent taking second club spot in 41.57 and Richard Scott third in 43.35... Read more
