Please give a warm welcome to new club member; Gregory Speller

Just for men at Slaughterford

It was a small and select group of five, all men, from Weston Athletic Club who travelled to Wiltshire on Sunday for the Slaughterford 9. The off-road race, organised by Chippenham Harriers, is notorious for its mud, freezing dip in a stream along the way, and punishing final hilly climb all the way to the finish line.

Kev Bale achieved a top ten finish placing seventh overall with his impressive time of 1.01.03. Shane Connolly took second club spot in 1.28.58 while Paul Snelling won his age category, crossing the line in 1.33.44.

Duncan claims victory at Gloucester

It was back to the tarmac last week for Weston Athletic Club’s members, leaving the mud behind for a while. With two races on offer in the club championship runners took their pick between the five mile prom run and the half marathon at Gloucester, or both.

Sunday saw ten club members travel to Gloucester for the half marathon, part of the club’s championship for the first time. Racing conditions were ideal with a gin-clear sky, cool temperature and little in the way of breeze which resulted in some fast times on the largely flat course.

Susan Duncan won the women’s race in a new personal best time of 1.23.36. Vicki Wilkins was second club woman in 1.55.36 with Kate Rossiter third in 2.02.15...Read more

Muddy miles for Weston’s runners

Not known for its parched conditions, this year’s Riverbank Rollick was a spectacularly muddy event with 9.5 miles of off-road muckiness to sap the energy of the 20 Weston Athletic Club runners who took it on.

But the sloppy conditions underfoot were like water off a duck’s back for Chris McMillan who romped home just under the hour in 59.52 to claim overall race victory, three and a half minutes ahead of his closest rival.

Next club member to finish was Cameron Slater in fourth place overall with an excellent time of 1.08.59. Stephen Powell’s time of 1.13.16 and Matt Wheeler’s 1.14.32 sealed the club’s victory in the men’s team prize stakes...Read more
