Words of Wisdom from an older runner; Tommy Hughes (59 years) currently running a 2:59 marathon
Skip the speedwork. But race often.
Hughes does very little speedwork, fearful that the extra intensity might lead to injury. However, he races almost every weekend, either in a local Parkrun or a nearby road race. And when he goes to a start line, he goes all-out: “I love competing, and I always give one-hundred percent,” he says.

British Cycling Statement:
With regards to daily exercise, without specific time or distance limits having been stated, it is to some degree open to interpretation what is considered reasonable (although it is hard to argue that a 200-mile ride constitutes ‘minimising time spent out of the home’).

The overriding sentiment seems to be that you can (and should) do enough to stay healthy and sane – but not really any more than that.

British Cycling is advising people to ride “for calm recreation” and not to challenge themselves.

“Now, more than ever, we must ride our bikes responsibly – that means only going out once a day, on our own, or with people we live with, and keeping two metres apart from anyone we meet, stopping and waiting for people to pass when necessary.

Suspension of club activities
16/03/2020
Following the government briefings of Monday 16th March 2020 the actions being taken to tackle the Coronavirus emergency now call on all of us to change our behaviours to help the effort.

In addition to actions for certain parts of the community to self isolate and other requests they have asked all of us to try to work from home where possible, avoid unnecessary travel and non-essential gatherings.

With the particular request to limit travel and gatherings your committee has decided that as a socially responsible club we should suspend all official club sessions for the foreseeable future.

We will resume as soon as developments allow but in the meantime stay safe and keep running.

With the extra time that you may have available why not try getting involved in helping out with supporting shopping and deliveries for the self isolating people in your area, family or neighbourhood watch etc.

I have an entry to the Berkeley 2020 Fission this weekend but won't be doing it. Transfers can be done so if anyone wants it for £15 just let me know.

Thank you to Sheryl, Jim, Ian and Paul for organising a great night on Friday. These events don’t organise themselves, so thank you for giving up your time to make them so enjoyable for the rest of us.

And huge congratulations to all our winners. You all do the club and yourselves proud with your achievements. Great to celebrate in style with you all. Here’s to loads more special moments throughout 2020 👍🏼

I have now updated the December handicap result and shown January start times. I have also posted the results of the timed mile from December on the next tab.
If you are not on the handicap list it just means that you have not run one in the last 12 months and we can agree start time before you run.

Congratulations to all the runners who took part in our first races of 2020 last night. Mild, dry and windy conditions made it an enjoyable evening for everyone including the marshals who did a fantastic job as always. A big thank you to everyone who came and helped.
